Robert Song's Running

I'm over 50 and been running off and on since 1968. I have run everything from 800m to 10k on the track, to half marathons (PB 1:21 Brisbane 1993) and marathons (PB 2:53 Gold Coast 1985).

Sunday Hadd LactateTest

10.0k 58:00.
Course: UoQ Track.
Start Time: 11:55am Temp 19C.
Session Type: Lactate Test Runs

I have decide to try some test runs along the priciples outline in this article by Hadd http://www.ffh.us/cn/hadd.htm. The idea is to do this every six weeks and to monitor your pace at given Heart Rates and to get some idea of your improvement and Lactate Thresholds.

The tests I am going to do are based on 2000m sets and will be run at HR 135, 145, 155, 165 and 175. I went out to the Uni track to do these and took Ducky along to count the laps and record my times.

The results were:
Heart Rate 135 - 6:25
Heart Rate 145 - 5:45
Heart Rate 155 - 5:03
Heart Rate 165 - 4:38
Heart Rate 175 - 4:15

I found it hard to keep under the 135 HR in the first set. The times all look a bit slow considering what I have done in races. Will be interesting to see how they progress over the coming year.
