Robert Song's Running

I'm over 50 and been running off and on since 1968. I have run everything from 800m to 10k on the track, to half marathons (PB 1:21 Brisbane 1993) and marathons (PB 2:53 Gold Coast 1985).

Tuesday 40min Gym Bike

My legs were feeling sore all over after the marathon. On the Tuesday after, the whole family went to Sea World for the day. I slowily walked around with them. I was quite stiff at the start of the day but loosened up a bit as the day progressed. My quads where especially sore and were doing a good job of masking any pain from my hammie.

By Thursday, my quads were much better and I was relieved to find I still only had a slight niggle in my hammie. My plan for after the marathon was always going to be having an easy month, so I am not too concerned about giving my injury as much time as it requires to get better.

By Sunday, I was getting restless so went up to the pool and did some laps. As well I went up to the soccer field with Kewell and kicked around the ball. This had the potential to be a bit risky for the legs but I seem to have come through with no problems.

Tonight I did an easy 40 minutes (Avg HR 110) on the Gym exercise bike with no noticeable reaction from my leg. So far so good.

Hope the recovery continues to go well. Is it too soon to ask what your next big race will be? Noosa maybe?

I had a couple of songs from your latest compilations on the iPod at BRRC on Sunday including Antigua Steel Band's "Never On A Sunday" :-)

I went to Movieworld on the day after the GC Marathon 2 years ago. "OK kids, you run ahead I'll catch you up" as i hobbled around.

I always take my family to Dreamworld after a Fat Ass run we do in Dec each year - it means I am forced to walk around recovery as oppossed to sitting on a coach or going back to bed (in summer the long runs really exhaust me!!).

So a good plan. It really works.

Sounds like you are being very sensible and ensuring the recovery is appropriate to remove any of those niggles that might stop you running down the track.
