Robert Song's Running

I'm over 50 and been running off and on since 1968. I have run everything from 800m to 10k on the track, to half marathons (PB 1:21 Brisbane 1993) and marathons (PB 2:53 Gold Coast 1985).

Friday 15K @ HR158 Pace 4:29

14.8k 1:06:27. HR Avg 158 Max 167 Avg Pace 4:29
Course: Work to Riverside and Back.
Start Time: 5:20 pm Temp 25C.
Session Type: Sub 82%MxHR Easy Run

What a difference a couple of degrees make. It was just that little bit cooler tonight. The plan was for a HR 155 run. Started out well and when I checked my HR after a K it was only 145. So no need to slow down. After 10 minutes I was only just getting above 150. So kept the pace going. Managed to be out in 32:58 (HR 153). Coming back it was into the breeze but still managed 33:29 but at HR 162.

This gave me 66:27 which is the fastest I have done on this course by 1 min 43 secs at this Heart Rate.

Bring on the cooler weather.

The cooler weather is great, though there goes my excuse for taking it easy :-)

By the way while at work tonight I've been listening to a CD that made your 2005 'Best Of' list - Beck's 'Guero'.

Persisting with the long running through summer is a good plan - but it is hard to feel comfortable, and well nigh impossible to improve times on the (hot) day. However when the cooler weather arrives that's when you find your fitness levels have improved after all, and all the more so for having persisted running in the heat. I concur, roll on Autumn.
