The Slow Build Up Begins
8th - 14th October
A nice easy week after the Marathon. Recovery has been good. The nail on my second toe of my right foot took a hammering in the Gold Coast Marathon in July and was just starting to grow back. It now is black again and imagine will fall off within the next month. Apart from that everything is fine.

15th - 21st October
It is now time to focus on the 2008 Gold Coast Marathon.
The plan is to start a five month base building phase which should take me up to March next year. No need to rush and I will be slowliy building up the Ks over that period and hopefully by the end be averaging over the 100k a week consistently.
Early on in the week it was very windy and later in the week it was cooler than it has been of late making for nice running conditions.

Steady as she goes, squire. One thing about warmer weather, I have found, is that it provides a good brake on your inclination to go harder or faster than your legs are ready for. We have this rotten problem with the seasons breaking so fast that you suddenly have to run like a whippet to get your heart rate up. And then, bingo, before you know it you are sorting niggles and injuries. So enjoy the summer and beware the ides of March. Whatever an ide is.

I admire your long term approach. 8 months is a long way. All the best in your base building.

Ah, the luxury of a long range plan.
I'm sure your patience will bring you the rewards you seek.

I'm sure you'll have the training plan nailed down after a couple of months. Just keep woking on it ;)
By the way, you and Don both have the same template, which contains invalid CSS - this could be causing Scott's crashing problem.

Wow, just one easy week post Melbourne. Perhaps I should scale my planned four easy weeks back to three.
The second toe ... hmmm, that one gets me. Wonder if there is any correlation between that and the fact that most stressies in the foot are on the second metatarsel.

I need to copy your thinking and commitment. GCM 08 starting now and getting to 100k is fantastic... good to hear no probs after Melb. Will watch with interest.

Toenails are way overrated anyway.
All the best with your prep for Gold Coast Robert.

Ok, I'm with Tesso, now I feel guilty. I've only run about 6 km since Melbourne..... My problem is that I want to start building for Canberra (24.5 weeks), but I'll have a 4 week enforced no-run period in December. Maybe I should start anyway.....
Good luck, but don't push too hard too early!
