BRRC 14k Champs
On Sunday I did the 14k Champs at the BRRC in a time of 85:15. That is an average pace of 6:06 per K.
When I started back into running in December, my goal was to get fit enough in 2010 to run a marathon again. Assuming Gold Coast as the target I then mapped out a training plan. I also tried to incorporate as many of the BRRC Championship races as possible into the schedule. This 14k always looked like being a tough one coming so early in the schedule. It was made even harder as improvement has been very slow and I had to rest from running for a week when I pulled something in my back whilst on holidays.
The longest run I had done so far was 6.8ks which I did last Wednesday and again on Friday. Still I thought if I just keep it slow I may just be able to make the distance.
Well I did start out slow and slowly got slowier as the race went on. Only trouble was that it was taking more and more out of me to just go slower and slower! In the end I was having to exert at close to my Max Heart Rate just to shuffle along.
So still a long way to go but given only six weeks ago I could only manage 5k in 7:15 pace , 14k at 6:06 looks like a huge improvement.
