Robert Song's Running

I'm over 50 and been running off and on since 1968. I have run everything from 800m to 10k on the track, to half marathons (PB 1:21 Brisbane 1993) and marathons (PB 2:53 Gold Coast 1985).

GC Half Lead Up.

In the three weeks since the Doomben Half training has been mostly going well.

I am now doing two higher effort runs each week. A 10k at around 4:15 pace and a 13k at 4:30 pace. My long runs are now 32k at around 4:55 pace.

So I hope to see a little improvement in my Half time on Sunday.

Although I am a bit worried about the logistics of getting to the start line as I am not staying down the Coast as in previous years. The race starts at 6:20 am , so I am calculating that in order to get there with plenty of time to prepare I will have to wake up just after I've gone to sleep. I will have to try getting to bed earlier this week.

I seem to be managing to dodge the cold/flu bugs that are flying around. All the kids have had it over the last month and some are still coughing but I wonder how much longer that I can last. And on the weekend, we learnt that one of the families that we share dance driving roster with has two confirmed cases of swine flu in their family. Yikes !!

Just under 8 weeks now till the Brisbane marathon and still no published course ???

I know it looks goofy but a mouth mask might do the trick. Don't shake hands with any of those southerners either just a friendly gut punch should suffice.

You're training at a great level thesedays Robert Song. I really hope you can get to the starting line with that fitness and have one of those races when everything comes together.

Swine flu! Now I'm not sure I want to go "head to head" with you in the half. I might switch to the marathon instead (get an extra hour of sleep too).

Catch you on the day - I'll look out for a runner wearing a mask.

Far out Robert Song what a fantastic marathon!! I saw the numbers and was truely amazed.

It's not often someone goes faster than they expect to go. It must have been one of those great days when everything comes together.

Please confirm the numbers and tell us what went on.

Congratulations, for a great build up and performance on the day!

Your main race is looking good!
