Robert Song's Running

I'm over 50 and been running off and on since 1968. I have run everything from 800m to 10k on the track, to half marathons (PB 1:21 Brisbane 1993) and marathons (PB 2:53 Gold Coast 1985).

Week 96.5k

On Tuesday, was forced on to the treadmill in the gym because of a thunderstorm with lots of lightning and even some hail. After twenty minutes, I couldn't see how I was going to last past half an hour but stuck with it and did 70 minutes all up. Lets hope it is a long time before I have to do that again.

Week 96.5k

Oct 412k
Year 2823k

It has been a much better two weeks of training and I am at last seeing some improvement in performances. I have been very consistent and that always pays off in the end. October has turned out to be my highest volume month ever at 412k. Below is a bar graph of Monthly Totals since 2005. The previous week had been rather mild but Friday evening it was quite hot and this morning's long run was done in humid conditions. So it could get tougher over the next few months to keep putting in the big Ks but I have set a goal of doing 400+ in November and December.

The other big highlight was that I not only passed Steve Monaghetti once on last Thursday's training run but I passed him twice. Now before you get too excited, let me say again that was pass and not overtake.

I'm glad you clarified that last statement, because I was going to ask which direction he was going!

Nice to hear that you've managed to keep up the high k's without niggles and that you're seeing the improvements. It's certainly got me thinking about how to increase my k's over the next year.

What was he doing in town? Noosa? Getting some tips from Pat Carrol?

Nice work with the volume. You're right - consistency is key. Just have to keep on truckin' and not end up on the sidelines like poor old Tesso.

What ... is Ewen calling me old!!! I'll use my sideline time to work on my belly punching muscles, he'll be sorry.

How exciting passing Monas. Did you find yourself correcting your form and running just a little faster :)

I once passed a gallstone! Does that count? Thanks for the advice on my blog Robert Song. I certainly could do with your kind of kind of mileage. Mabe next marathon.

Seems you don't much like treadmills. But good that you could still get the ks in despite the weather.
